Models

Models are the means by which Erstwhile applications connect with backend systems.

Importantly, using Erstwhile’s model layer is optional. While it does attempt to make things easier, you can connect to other services using Axios or whichever other library you prefer, and manage sessions like you do with other frameworks.

If you can, though, using Erstwhile’s models should make your life a little easier.

If you go the Erstwhile Model route….

There are two primary ways of building out your model layer:

  1. Use an Erstwhile-aware backend
  2. Create a local API description file

Using an Erstwhile-aware backend is definitely preferred (we even have a Node module to help out!) but since it’s still early on in the Erstwhile Revolution it’s possible you may need to make your own description file.
